  Purpose
In keeping with its mission of developing workforce talent to foster economic development, Tampa Bay WorkForce Alliance (TBWA) invests in college scholarships for high school graduates. The purpose is to enable eligible Hillsborough County high school students to prepare for an increasing demand of higher educated workers in the Tampa Bay region. For the past four years TBWA has invested in a total of 79 scholarships, totaling 400,000.

Scholarships
TBWA offers eligible high school seniors (or GED graduates) an opportunity to apply pre-paid tuition scholarships to approved Florida or out-of-state universities, community colleges, vocational-technical schools or any school approved by the Florida Prepaid Scholarship Board.

Tuition Plan
Eligible applicants can be awarded one of any of the following tuition plans:
 The 4 Year University Tuition Plan – covers 120 undergraduate credit hours at a state university in Florida
 The 2+2 Tuition Plan – covers 60 community college credit hours and 60 university undergraduate credit hours, or two years to each school
 The 2 Year Community College Tuition Plan - covers 60 community college credit hours

Eligibility
Applicant must meet the following requirements:
 Be a high school senior (or GED completed).
 Be accepted to an approved Florida Prepaid College institution of higher learning at the time of award.
 Submit 500-word essay on specified topic.
 Submit two letters of recommendation from a teacher and/or guidance counselor.
 Have minimum GPA of 2.0 and submit high school transcript.
 Meet income criteria.

Submission Deadline
The application process for the 2008-2009 school year will open in November 2008. Applications will be available online and at all Hillsborough County High Schools.
