  Employment Candidate Services / Meet the 2008 TBWA Scholars

  Tampa Bay WorkForce Alliance's mission is to develop workforce talent to foster economic development in the Tampa Bay area. Each year, TBWA selects promising young students to receive scholarships as a way of preparing high school students for an increasing demand in higher educated workers. During the past four years, TBWA has awarded 77 scholarships. These are the students who are part of the "Symphony of Achievement."

2008 TBWA Scholar Jessica Ardon

Jessica Ardon is a senior at Riverview High School and plans to attend the University of South Florida to study nursing.

Jessica is a member of the Spanish Honor Society and the National Honor Society. She mentors children at Rodgers Middle School and volunteers at her church, the VA hospital and Relay for Life.




2008 TBWA Scholar Zumaly Dixon

Zumaly Dixon is a senior at King High School and plans to attend the University of Florida to pursue a bachelor's degree in business administration.

Zumaly is a member of the National Honor Society, Fellowship of Christian Athletes and the Student Advisory Council. She is a Key Scholar, Temple Terrace Juniorette and was voted Who's Who amoung American high school students.




2008 TBWA Scholar Aaron Driscoll

Aaron Driscoll is a senior at Plant City High School and plans to attend the University of South Florida to study medical engineering.

Aaron is a member of Mu Alpha Theta, the Science team and the Academic team at Plant City HS. He also scored a perfect 800 on the Math portion of the SAT.




2008 TBWA Scholar Eddie Emilut

Eddie Emilut is a senior at Plant City High School and plans to attend Hillsborough Community College to study criminal justice.

Eddie is a member of the Key Club and participated in Take Stock in Children.

Eddie is the first in his family to attend college.




2008 TBWA Scholar Roderick Henderson

Roderick Henderson is a senior at Plant City High School and plans on attending the University of Central Florida to study architecture.

Roderick is the co-captain of the Varsity basketball team and was voted MVP. He also serves in the National Honor Society, Civitan and the Key Club. Roderick recently received the Scholar Athlete Award. He is active in his church and tutors youth at the Boys & Girls Club.


2008 TBWA Scholar Megan Hicklin

Megan Hicklin is a senior at Robinson High School and plans to attend the University of South Florida to study dietetics.

Megan is a member of the National Honor Society, Beta, Spanish Honor Society, TBWA Youth Program and Junior Achievement. She has been a member of the school orchestra, playing the violin, since 2004.

Megan is also a member of the Starlets Dance Team and was recently recognized as an Athena Young Woman of Promise nominee.


2008 TBWA Scholar Sapphire Johnson

Sapphire Johnson is a senior at Armwood High School and plans to attend Hillsborough Community College to study behavioral science.

Sapphire is a member of Student Government, Yearbook and the Urban Youth program. This year, Sapphire placed first in the International Stock Market Challenge.




2008 TBWA Scholar Gleneda Joseph

Gleneda Joseph is a senior at Leto High School and plans to attend the University of South Florida to study architecture.

Gleneda is a member of the French Honor Society, the National Honor Society, Beta and Mu Alpha Theta.






2008 TBWA Scholar Britany Kendrick

Britany Kendrick is a senior at Tampa Bay Technical High School and plans to attend Hillsborough Community College to study nursing.

Britany is a step team leader at the local Boys & Girls club, volunteers at a local day care and mentors youth at church.






2008 TBWA Scholar Veronica Maldonado

Veronica Maldonado is a senior at Wharton High School and plans to attend Hillsborough Community College to study health sciences.

Veronica is a member of the Health Occupations Students of America, Fellowship of Christian Athletes and Family Consumer Career Leaders of America.




2008 TBWA Scholar Michael Martinez

Michael Martinez will graduate from Simmons Career Center and wants to study film production at the International Academy of Design and Technology.

Michael is a member of the National Technical Honor Society and is a leader in his graphic arts class.

Michael is also a member of his church marching band.




2008 TBWA Scholar Devin McNish

Devin McNish attends Hillsborough High School and plans to attend Florida A & M University to study business administration.

Devin is the Captain of the Varsity Football team and a member of Project Shine, Gear Up and Champions for Christ.

Devin is the receipent of the Turnaround Achievement Award.




2008 TBWA Scholar Steven Mitchell

Steven Mitchell is a senior at Plant City High School and plans to attend Hillsborough Community College to study business administration.

Steven is a member of Civitan, Upward Bound and the TBWA Youth Program.

Steven is a member of the Plant City HS cross-country team and the VP of his church choir.




2008 TBWA Scholar Shazia Mitha

Shazia Mitha will graduate from the IB program at Hillsborough High School and plans to attend the University of South Florida to study medicine.

Shazia is a member of the Spanish Honor Society, National Honor Society, Key Club, Mu Aplha Theta and the Latin Club.

Shazia participates on the flag football team, track & field team and speaks six languages.


2008 TBWA Scholar Ricardo Navarro

Ricardo Navarro is a senior at Robinson High School and plans to attend the University of Florida to study journalism.

Ricardo is a member of Yearbook, the National Honor Society and Student Government.

Ricardo scored a perfect 6.0 on the Florida Writes test.




2008 TBWA Scholar Shambrey Oliver

Shambrey Oliver is a senior at Armwood High School and plans to attend the University of South Florida to study medicine.

Shambrey is the Captain of the track & field team and is a member of Interact, National Honor Society, Tampa Youth Council and TBWA Youth Program.

Shambrey is also on the Principal's Honor Roll and was recognized for Perfect Attendance.


2008 TBWA Scholar Phillip Ondrovic

Phillip Ondrovic is a senior at Plant City High School and plans to attend the University of South Florida to study engineering.

Phillip is a member of the National Honor Society and Civitan.

Phillip is an avid carpenter and is the first in his family to attend college.




2008 TBWA Scholar Monique Parker

Monique Parker will graduate from Middleton Magnet High School and plans to attend Florida A & M University to study chemical engineering.

Monique is a member of the Varsity basketball team and was voted MVP. She is also a member of the National Honor Society, National Technical Honor Society, Japanese Honor Societies, TBWA Youth Program and the National Society of Black Engineers.


2008 TBWA Scholar Angielique Ramirez

Angielique Ramirez is a senior at Gaither High School and plans to attend the University of Tampa to study biology.

Angielique is a member of the National Honor Society, Health Occupations Students of America and the Spanish Dance Club Team.

Angelique is also a choreographer and teacher's assistant at her dance studio.


2008 TBWA Scholar Katelyn Randall

Katelyn Randall is a senior at Riverview High School and plans to attend the Palm Beach Atlantic University to study psychology.

Katelyn is a member of Student Government and Yearbook.

She is active in her youth ministry and missions work and has been a teen radio host for a Christian radio station.




2008 TBWA Scholar Andrea Reyes

Andrea Reyes is a senior at King High School and plans to attend the University of South Florida to study business administration.

Andrea is a member of the National Honor Society, French Honor Society and Interact. She has been recognized as the "Outstanding Juniorette for Florda" for eight consecutive years.

Andrea has a black belt in Goju-Ryu karate.


2008 TBWA Scholar Pablo Rivera

Pablo Rivera is a senior at Freedom High School and plans to attend Hillsborough Community College to study zoology.

Pablo is a member of the National Art Honor Society and German Club.

Pablo was also voted as a "Role Model" employee at Busch Gardens.




2008 TBWA Scholar Sheena Smith

Sheena Smith will graduate from Middleton Magnet School and plans to attend Florida State University to study biology.

Sheena is a member of the National Honor Society, Interact, Beta and the Upstairs 300 Club.

Sheena plays the violin and works part-time.




2008 TBWA Scholar Carlos Valdes

Carlos Valdes is a senior at Hillsborough High School and plans to attend the University of South Florida to study accounting.

Carlos is a member of the Future Business Leaders of America and Gear Up.

Carlos is also on the High Honor Roll and is recognized for his perfect attendance.




2008 TBWA Scholar Laura Zarrate

Laura Zarrate is a senior at Freedom High School and plans to attend the University of Tampa to study accounting.

Laura is a member of the swim team, Dance Club and German Honor Society.

Laura is also an avid scuba diver and recently dove off the coast of Egypt.
