STEP Training
Successful Transition to the Employed Population (STEP) courses allow career seekers to build their resume, learn how to get the most out of Employ Florida Marketplace, build on their interview skills and gain some intermediate computer skills. And, best of all, these weekly courses are offered at no cost!
Please note that, with the exception of the Computer Skills session, seating for Training Workshops are on a first come, first serve basis.
Seating for the computer Class is limited, so it is required to sign up prior to attending. Any staff member in the resource room can sign you up. Candidates will be scheduled for the next available session. Candidates will need to arrive early enough to allow themselves enough time to electronically sign in at the kiosks in lobby. Candidates will be directed to the designated seating area no later than 5 minutes prior to the start of the class. Candidates that arrive after the class has started will need to plan to attend another class.
Building Your Resume Workshop (UC) (Mondays 10:00 a.m. – 12:00 noon)
What exactly is a resume? It’s a reflection of YOU! Come join us for how to get started as we walk through and build, edit and update your resume step-by-step. The class will include helpful information on cover letters, the goal of a resume and the different types of resumes and resume content. Make sure to bring a copy of your resume as we will be working on it step by step to get it polished and ready to submit. An experienced instructor will be available to assist candidates.
Getting The Most From EFM (UC) (Tuesdays 10:00 a.m. – 12:00 noon)
Join us as we navigate through the Employ Florida Marketplace (EFM) web site and guide you on how to best utilize this tool for your future success! Get a detailed orientation on the many functions in EFM, such as: creating a resume, how to search for a job, how to find labor market information, online training courses and many more.
Building Your Interview Skills (UC) (Wednesdays 10:00 a.m. – 12:00 noon)
So you’ve got a resume, now what? It’s time to get your job search in motion. This class will help you do just that. We’ll discuss the job search process, networking and explore different web sites, including www.employflorida.com. Now that we have the job search and networking down, it’s time to get the job! We will discuss tips for the ‘hot seat’ and helping you own it! Confidence is key and this class will offer the extra knowledge you need to help give you the edge and walk away making a lasting impression that will lead to the job offer you want.
Introduction to Basic Computer Skills (UC) (Thursdays 10:00 a.m. – 12:00 noon)
This course will consist of an overview of what a computer is and its basic parts; to include how to use the mouse. Learn about the internet and how to connect, use, browse and search. We will also cover what is Microsoft Word and some of the basic functions such as creating a new document, cut/copy/paste, saving, printing, etc. How to create and use an email address will also be discussed.
Building Financial Wellness (Fridays 10:00am – 11:30am)
Fifth Third Bank is partnering with TBWA to help customers better understand and take control of their financial futures. Three topics will be discussed: Establishing and Repairing Credit, Identity Theft Protection and Establishing a Personal Budget. Come prepared to ask questions.
