On June 10, 2008, TBWA recognized its three Business Excellence Awards recipients at Tampa’s InterContinental Hotel.  Recipients were selected for their commitment to hiring and retaining top talent. The 2008 TBWA Business Excellence Awards recipients were:

Emerging Business Award:  Digital Hands

In 2001, Digital Hands set out to prove that tech support could be faster and more reliable. Company leaders knew they had to recruit and retain top-notch employees to drive the success of the company.

As part of the organization’s family-first mantra, a full three weeks of paid time off is granted to new employees and the number of days increases as tenure increases. Digital Hands also holds monthly “town hall” meetings to offer open communication with all staff.

Expanding Business Award:  Boys & Girls Clubs of Tampa Bay

The Boys & Girls Clubs of Tampa Bay emphasizes teamwork and a family atmosphere.  The product they produce is unique; they strive to enable young people, especially those who need them most, to reach their full potential as productive, caring and responsible citizens.  To do this, staff consistency and retention is of the utmost importance.

To cope with the ever-changing workforce, they offer paid vacation benefits for part-time staff after one year of employment.  Flexible hours allow for working parents to still spend quality time with their families. There are many job opportunities for older youth from the clubs, and there is a focus on diversity.  This allows many youth to gain valuable experience that will help them become productive members of the workforce.  Many of the Boys & Girls Clubs employees were members of a club when they were younger. These are just a few of the many small steps taken daily to build team chemistry and promote retention.

Growth Business Award:  SGIS

SGIS provides services and solutions that defend the United States from threats, provides advanced tools to soldiers and assists government agencies in running their business more effectively. SGIS uses technology to effectively and efficiently hire and retain through marketing and Web campaigns, social networking sites, videos, podcasts and recruiting software. SGIS also provides a fast-paced, motivating atmosphere with opportunities for professional growth. Employee training includes real-life role-play situations, resource management training and customer-specific training.

At the June reception, TBWA also recognized the Business Excellence Award semi-finalists:
